FEELINGS AND FORTUNE COOKIES
--by DaySounds, © 2006-21

Feelings come, feelings go.
Someone thinks it is the Holy Ghost;
But mistakes
Are not made by God.

Why is it, then,
that a person
Decides on a trail to go
Which leads nowhere, at best,
And to the abyss, at worse,
Convinced that his feelings
Are guidance from the Lord?

At the end of the day,
Two fortune cookies
On a table are spread--
One for him, one for her.
They are opened and read...
"Oh, you for sure
Will have a nice day today."

An acknowledging smile
Appears on a face,
And a frown
On the other's forehead.
The same message
Is in both cookies,
But two opposite experiences
That day took place.

"Go for the decision you made,"
Cookies at a different table say.
Will they follow those directions?
Will they drink, in their thirst,
From the tantalizing
Water-hemlock vase?

At a home,
The Bible at random is opened,
A verse without context read:
"Go ahead.
Your enemies will be conquered."...
"God has spoken," they proclaim.
And,thus, a Bible verse
Becomes a fortune cookie,
Without using any magic,
Sorcery, or spell.

While in the abyss still falling,
In despair, sadness, unbelief,
Many   cry   outloud,
"I   was   mistaken,
There is no God
Out there."

The vulture, the raven, and the crow,
In   the air   making   funny circles,
With laughter raise their voices:
"We can always count
On   feeelings
And fortune
